Chris Is Enough!

In a world that constantly urges us to define ourselves by our achievements, emotions, or knowledge, Charles Spurgeon’s words serve as a profound and timely reminder of where our true anchor lies: “My faith rests not in what I am, or shall be, or feel, or know, but in what Christ is, in what He has done, and in what He is doing for me.” These words challenge the noise of a performance-driven culture and gently call us back to the heart of the gospel—Jesus Christ Himself. When everything else around us shifts—our moods, our confidence, our understanding—Christ remains the same: faithful, unchanging, and deeply present.

This truth is powerfully confirmed in Hebrews 13:8, which declares, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Unlike our fluctuating feelings or the temporary security found in worldly success, Jesus is constant. He is the one foundation that never moves. No matter what season of life we find ourselves in—whether full of joy or weighed down by sorrow—our faith does not depend on our ability to be strong, but on His ability to be steadfast.

There is great freedom in this perspective. We are not saved or sustained by the strength of our feelings or the clarity of our understanding. Our hope is not anchored in our knowledge, our behavior, or our emotional highs. We are held by the finished work of Jesus on the cross, by His victory over sin and death, and by His ongoing intercession on our behalf. Even on the days when we feel weak, frustrated, confused, or unworthy, our foundation remains firm. Why? Because it is not built on us—it is built on Him. And what He builds, He sustains.

In short, my beloved brothers and sisters, the Apostle Paul reminds us in Ephesians 2:8–9: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.” Our salvation is not a reward for our performance, nor is it a reflection of how well we measure up. It is the result of God’s incomprehensible grace, His undeserved mercy, and His unwavering commitment to love and redeem His people. This truth silences our striving and invites us to rest in the sufficiency of Christ.

Pray with me:
Lord Jesus, thank You that my faith does not have to rest on my performance, emotions, knowledge, or understanding, but on who You are. Thank You for Your unchanging nature, Your finished work on the cross, and Your continual presence in my life. Strengthen my heart when I feel weak, and remind me daily that You are enough. Help me to rest in the truth that I am loved and held—not because of what I do, but because of what You have done and who You are. In Your holy name, I pray, receive, believe, and praise. Amen.
