Get Up & Move!

Sometimes God calls us to be still—and sometimes He calls us to move. And in moments of uncertainty, we need the wisdom to know when it’s time for both.

In Exodus 14:14, Moses tells the Israelites: “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” It was a command to pause, trust, and stop panicking. At that moment, their stillness was faith. But then, in the very next verse—Exodus 14:15—God replies: “Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on.”

So which is it—be still or move forward? The answer is both.

First, we must still our hearts. We must calm our fears, anchor our trust, and silence our doubt. But faith doesn’t mean inaction. James 2:17 reminds us that, “Faith without works is dead.” Henceforth, once trust aka faith is rooted, obedience must follow. God parted the Red Sea—but they still had to walk through it. Stillness prepared their spirit, but movement fulfilled the miracle and/or promise.

Beloved, in your life, God may be calling you to rest in His promises—but don’t mistake stillness of heart for paralysis of purpose. He’s fighting for you, but He’s also calling you to move forward.

Pray With Me:
Father God, teach me how to be still—and then how to move. Still my heart so I can trust You. Strengthen my steps so I can follow You. Help me discern when to wait in faith and when to walk in obedience. I believe You are fighting for me, and I’m ready to move when You say, “Go.” In Jesus’ name I pray, believe, receive, and praise. Amen.
