“Faith Can Handle The Tension”
Beloved, faith doesn’t deny the tension—it lives in it. We can hold space for both prayer and praise, for weeping and rejoicing, for heartbreak and hope. Life with God isn’t about pretending everything’s fine; it’s about trusting that Jesus sits in the tension with us.
In the Old Testament, Solomon, the wisest king to ever live, reminds us in Ecclesiastes 3:4: “There is a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance.” Solomon wrote these words to teach us that every emotion has its season—and that God is present in them all. We’re not meant to rush through the valley or skip the mountaintop; both reveal His faithfulness in different ways.
And in the New Testament, the apostle Paul writes in Romans 12:15: “Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.” Paul’s words remind us that faith isn’t isolation—it’s empathy. God calls us to walk with others in both their laughter and their lament, because that’s how we reflect His heart. Even Jesus Himself wept and rejoiced, showing us that divine strength holds compassion and courage together.
So Beloved, it’s okay to cry and still believe. It’s okay to hurt and still worship. You are not weak for feeling both pain and praise—you’re human, and He understands. Jesus, our High Priest, sits with us in the middle of the tension, whispering, “I’m here.”
The good news is that Jesus sits in the tension with us!
Pray with me:
Father God, thank You for being with me in both the joy and the sorrow. Teach me to hold space for both prayer and praise, for both tears and thanksgiving. Sit with me in the tension, Lord, and remind me that Your presence is my peace. In Jesus’ name, we pray, believe, receive, and praise.
Amen.
