Anoint My Head With Oil!

“He Anoints My Head With Oil”

Beloved, when Scripture says, “He anoints my head with oil,” it is not poetic exaggeration — it is pastoral truth. From a sheep’s perspective, oil is not optional; it is essential. Sheep are vulnerable to parasites and insects that attack the head, ears, and eyes, bringing irritation, fear, and restlessness. Left untreated, sheep will injure themselves trying to find relief. So the shepherd applies oil — not after damage is done, but before trouble takes hold.

The Old Testament gives us this picture clearly. David writes in Psalm 23:5, “You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.” The oil soothes what is irritated, repels what would harm, and brings peace where anxiety once lived. For the sheep, the anointing means safety. It means the shepherd has seen the threat and acted in advance.

The New Testament reveals the deeper meaning. Jesus declares in Luke 4:18, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me.” The same Spirit that rested on Christ now covers us. God’s anointing doesn’t remove the environment — it removes the torment. It guards the mind, calms the soul, and protects the places we can’t reach ourselves.

So Beloved, if you feel restless, overwhelmed, or worn down, don’t fight harder — draw closer. Stay near the Shepherd. Let Him apply the oil. Let Him cover your thoughts, your emotions, your fears. Peace doesn’t come from the absence of danger — it comes from the presence of a faithful Shepherd.

Because a sheep at peace isn’t one without danger — it’s one under the care of a good Shepherd.

Pray with me: Father God, thank You for being my Shepherd and for anointing my head with oil. Cover my mind, calm my soul, and protect me from what I cannot see. Help me rest in Your care and trust Your provision. In Jesus’ name, I pray, believe, receive, and praise in advance, Amen!
