“Silver Spoons 🥄🥄”
Back in the day Beloved, I used to love watching the 1982 sitcom Silver Spoons. It told the story of a young boy who suddenly discovered his father was wealthy and stepped into a life of privilege—filled with luxury, access, and things money could buy. Week after week, it painted a picture of what the world calls “having it all.”
The world still talks about “silver spoons” the same way—being born into advantage, access, and inheritance. It suggests that some are simply handed more than others. But in the Kingdom of God, your identity is not defined by what you were born into naturally—it is defined by who you are reborn into spiritually.
The Old Testament points to inheritance as something given by God, not earned by status. In Psalm 16:5, David says, “Lord, You alone are my portion and my cup; You make my lot secure.” True inheritance is not material—it is relational.
The New Testament makes this even clearer in Romans 8:16–17: “The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ.” This is not a silver spoon—this is a spiritual inheritance that cannot be bought, earned, or lost. It is given through relationship with Christ.
The reality is this: the world may measure privilege by what is handed to you, but God measures inheritance by who you belong to.
So, Beloved, don’t envy what others seem to have been given. You are not overlooked—you are adopted. And what God gives His children is far greater than anything this world can offer. You were not born into luck—you were reborn into inheritance. Air may keep us alive, but knowing we are heirs gives us something to live for.
Because a silver spoon may give you access to things…
—but being a son or daughter gives you access to the Father.
Pray with me: Father God, thank You that my identity is not found in what I have, but in who I am in You. Help me live as an heir of Your promises and not chase what the world calls privilege. Teach me to walk boldly as Your child, secure in Your love and confident in my inheritance through Christ; in Jesus name, I pray, believe, receive, and praise in advance, Amen!
