James 1:23-24 (NIV) – “Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.”

Undoubtedly, when we think of God’s Word, we often consider its power and authority, its role as a sword that pierces through falsehood and defends against the enemy. Indeed, Hebrews 4:12 tells us, “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” However, before we wield the Word as a sword, it must first serve as a mirror.

That being said, before we use God’s Word as a SWORD, we must first use it as a MIRROR.

God’s Word as a mirror reveals our true selves, reflecting back the areas where we fall short and need His grace. It’s a tool for self-examination, calling us to acknowledge our sins, weaknesses, and areas where we need growth. James 1:23-24 warns us about the danger of hearing the Word but failing to apply it. When we look into this mirror and walk away unchanged, we deceive ourselves.

Here are three guiding principles to consider before you pull out God’s sWORD from it’s sheath:

1. Self-Examination:
Before using Scripture to address others, we must first allow it to address us. Jesus taught about this in Matthew 7:3-5, urging us to remove the plank from our own eye before addressing the speck in our brother’s eye. Let the Word convict and transform you, shaping your character and actions.

2. Transformation:
When we let the Bible reflect our flaws, it leads to transformation. Romans 12:2 instructs us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. This transformation prepares us to wield the Word effectively and with humility, not as self-righteous judges but as humble servants.

3. Gentle Correction:
Using God’s Word as a mirror fosters a grace filled heart. Galatians 6:1 advises, “Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently.” Recognizing our own imperfections cultivates empathy, guiding us to correct others with love and gentleness.

My brothers and sisters, we are all works in progress and no of us bat 100%. I have this scripture posted on the wall next to my back door and truthfully, I still struggle! However, as you and I continue to consistently integrate these principles into our daily lives, we embody the grace and truth of Christ more fully. The Word becomes a beacon of light that not only guides us but also illuminates the path for others (Psalm 119:105). So, let’s commit to using God’s Word as a mirror before we use it as a sword, ensuring that our hearts are aligned with His redemptive will, plan, and purpose for salvation, deliverance, transformation, renewal, refreshment, revival, and restoration!

Lord, help us to approach Your Word with humility and openness. Let it reveal our true selves, showing us where we need Your grace and transformation. Guide us to be compassionate and gentle as we share Your truth with others. May our lives reflect Your love and righteousness, bringing glory to Your name.

On this Memorial Day weekend, we remember and honor the brave men, women and our 4-legged friends who have served our nation with courage and dedication. Their sacrifices have safeguarded our freedoms, and their legacy of service and valor will never be forgotten. As we reflect on their contributions, we turn to the Holy Scriptures for comfort and inspiration.

Jesus said in John 15:13, “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” Our veterans embody this ultimate act of love and sacrifice. They have laid down their lives, not only for their friends but for all of us, ensuring the safety and liberty of future generations.

In Psalm 82:3-4, we are called to “Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.” Our veterans have answered this call with unwavering dedication, defending those who could not defend themselves and standing against oppression and injustice.

The Apostle Paul reminds us in Romans 13:7, “Give to everyone what you owe them: if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.” Today, we owe our veterans the highest respect and deepest honor. Their selflessness and bravery deserve our gratitude and recognition every day, but especially on this day dedicated to their memory.

Isaiah 40:31 offers us a message of hope and renewal: “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” We believe that our veterans, through their faith and service, are now soaring on wings like eagles, renewed in the presence of the Lord.

As we remember our veterans, let us also hold onto the promise found in Revelation 21:4: “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” We find solace in knowing that those who have served and sacrificed are now free from pain and are embraced in God’s eternal peace.

On this Memorial Day, let us honor our veterans not only with words but with actions that reflect the values they fought to protect. May we live lives worthy of their sacrifice, upholding the principles of freedom, justice, and peace. And may we never forget the cost of our liberty, carried on the shoulders of those who served.

To our veterans, we say thank you. Your bravery, sacrifice, and service will forever be remembered and cherished. May God bless you and keep you, and may His eternal light shine upon you.

Hebrews 13:5 says, “I will never leave you; never will I forsake you”. The verse continues, “So we say with confidence, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?'”

We all should know that life is a journey filled with moments of joy and sorrow, triumphs and trials. Sometimes, when the road gets rough, it can feel as though we are walking alone. The weight of our worries and the heaviness of our hearts can cloud our perception of God’s presence. Yet, the truth remains that God is with us every single day, in every moment, no matter how challenging life becomes.

Hebrews 13:5 is a powerful reminder of God’s unwavering presence and support. He reminds us to be confident in trusting that He is always with us! This promise is not conditional; it does not depend on the state of our circumstances. Whether we are facing the heights of joy or the depths of despair, in Isiah 41:10 God’s promised to strengthen, help, and uphold us stands firm.

In this season of life, are you experiencing a few setbacks? Well, if this message speaks to the point of your situation, I invite you consider the story of Joseph in the book of Genesis. Betrayed by his brothers, sold into slavery, and unjustly imprisoned, Joseph’s life was riddled with hardships. Yet, through every trial, the Bible repeatedly affirms that “the Lord was with Joseph.” God’s presence didn’t mean Joseph was spared from difficulties, but it meant he was never abandoned in them. God used even the most painful experiences to bring about a greater good, ultimately leading Joseph to a position of power where he could save many lives, including those of his own family.

My brothers and sisters, in our independent hectic lives, we may not always understand why we face certain struggles. But we can hold onto the assurance that God is with us in the midst of them. He sees our pain, hears our cries, and feels our burdens. His promise is not just to be near us but to actively sustain us. He offers us strength when we feel weak, help when we feel helpless, and the support of His righteous right hand when we feel like we can’t go on.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the promise of Your constant presence. In the moments when life feels overwhelming and burdens seem too heavy to bear, remind us that You are with us. Help us to feel Your strength and support, and to trust in Your plan even when we can’t see the way forward. May Your peace that surpasses all understanding guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Amen and Amen, and Amen!

“For the Lord Almighty has purposed, and who can thwart him? His hand is stretched out, and who can turn it back?” Isaiah 14:27 (NIV)

In our fast-paced world, where uncertainty often looms large, Isaiah 14:27 offers a profound reassurance: God’s plans are unshakable and His purposes are unstoppable. This verse invites us to reflect on the sovereignty and omnipotence of God, emphasizing that His divine will is beyond human interference.

When Isaiah declares, “For the Lord Almighty has purposed, and who can thwart him?”, he reminds us that no earthly power or circumstance can derail what God has set in motion. This is a source of immense comfort for us as believers. Despite the chaos we might witness in the world or the personal challenges we face, we can rest in the certainty that God’s plan for our lives and His overarching plan for the universe will come to fruition.

Isaiah 14:24–27 presents a brief prophecy against the Assyrians living in Isaiah’s own time. The Lord openly declares His purpose to break the Assyrians in His land. He will break their oppression of His people. This likely happened in 701 BC when Assyrian King Sennacherib held Jerusalem in a siege. The angel of the Lord struck down massive numbers of Assyrians in a single night (2 Kings 19:35–36). Nobody can alter what the Lord has purposed or annul His plans. The Lord will do as He said He will do.

Furthermore, the imagery of God’s “hand stretched out” further underscores His active involvement and authority. A stretched-out hand symbolizes both action and intention. God is not passive or distant; He is actively working in our lives and in the world, guiding events according to His purpose. And crucially, once His hand is stretched out, no force can retract it. This divine determination ensures that His promises to us remain steadfast.

As it was for Judah, so it is for us; in moments of doubt or despair, when we question the direction our lives are taking, Isaiah 14:27 calls us to trust in God’s sovereignty. It encourages us to align ourselves with His will, knowing that His plans are ultimately for our good and His glory. This trust doesn’t mean we won’t face difficulties, but it does mean we can endure them with the assurance that God’s purpose is being fulfilled, even in ways we might not immediately understand.

My brothers and sisters, let this verse serve as a reminder to surrender your fears and uncertainties to God. Embrace the peace that comes from knowing that the Lord Almighty, who holds all power and authority, is in control. His plans cannot be thwarted, and His love for us is unwavering. Spiritually, emotionally, mentally, psychologically, and physically rest in the confidence that God’s hand is at work in your life, leading you according to His perfect purpose. All the forces of darkness cannot destroy what God has ordained.

In life, we are often confronted with fears, anxieties, and uncertainties that can paralyze us, hindering our progress and robbing us of our peace. Yet, in the midst of these challenges, God calls us to be courageous. Joshua 1:9 (NIV) says, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Just as God commanded Joshua to be strong and courageous as he led the Israelites into the promised land, He commands us today to embrace courage in the face of fear. He reassures us that we are not alone in our struggles. His presence goes before us, guiding and protecting us every step of the way.

Another great example of courage under fire is found in 1 Samuel, Chapter 17. David and Goliath is a classic tale of courage, faith, and the triumph. Despite being much smaller and less experienced in battle, David faced Goliath armed with only a sling and five smooth stones. As Goliath mocked him, David declared his trust in God, stating that the battle belonged to the Lord. You see, even before the battle began David didn’t talk about how dangerous Goliath was—he talked about how great God is!

My brothers and sisters, when fear tries to grip our hearts and minds, let us remember both David’s and Joshua’s stories. Let us draw strength from the knowledge that our God is with us, empowering us to overcome every obstacle and fear that stands in our way.

May we find comfort in knowing that God is faithful, and His promises are true. As we walk in courage and trust in His unfailing love, may we experience the peace that surpasses all understanding, knowing that we are held securely in His hands.

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your constant presence in our lives. Grant us the courage to face our fears with faith, knowing that You are with us every step of the way. Help us to trust in Your provisions, promises, and find strength in Your unfailing love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

C.S. Lewis said, “God whispers to us in our pleasure, but shouts to us in our pain. The painful circumstances – whether we bring them on ourselves, or other people cause them, or the Devil incites them – are used by God to help us grow in likeness to his son.”

The story of Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch demonstrates one way that God speaks through and directs our circumstances. In Acts 8:26, we see the disciples and apostles going around preaching the Good News of Jesus, and God speaks to Philip. “Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, ‘Go south to the road—the desert road—that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.’” God spoke to Philip and just said, “Go”. So, Philip, trusting God, went south on the desert road and met the Ethiopian eunuch, who was reading in the book of Isaiah and did not understand what he was reading. Philip got in the chariot with the eunuch and preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ to him. The eunuch put his trust in Jesus, and was so excited about his new life that when he saw water, he urged Philip to baptize him. As the man came up out of the water, the Holy Spirit carried Philip away to a town, and there he kept on preaching the Gospel.

Philip let his geographical circumstances guide him as he remained a willing vessel for God’s kingdom. Through Philip’s obedience and letting God speak to him and guide his circumstances, the Ethiopian eunuch was saved, baptized, and his life was made new.

My brothers and sisters, let the circumstances of your life be a vessel to hear God speaking to you and directing you. Look for the kingdom opportunities in whatever circumstances, locations, or situations you end up in. Maybe it isn’t random or unexpected; maybe it’s a divine appointment and God is speaking to you and nudging you to hear Him and act. God desires to both use your circumstances to bless and preach to people—like Philip—and God desires to speak to you through your circumstances—encourage you, mature you, guide you, correct you, and be with you. Your circumstances are a place where God is speaking to you and through you.

As we journey through life, we often encounter moments of uncertainty, trials, and challenges that test our faith and resolve. In these times, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed, anxious, or even defeated. However, as believers, we are called to anchor our trust in the unwavering promise of God’s providence.

In Romans 8:28, Paul reminds us that “God works all things together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.” This verse serves as a beacon of hope, illuminating the path of faith amidst the darkness of adversity. It reassures us that even in the midst of our greatest trials and tribulations, God is orchestrating His predispose divine plan for our lives.

Therefore, whenever we face challenges that seem insurmountable, we must remember that God’s perspective transcends our own. While we may only see the chaos, crux, and confusion, God sees the intricate tapestry of our lives, woven together with promise, purpose, and precision. He knows the beginning from the end and the end from the beginning (Isiah 46:10) and He is incessantly working behind the scenes to bring about His perfect will in our lives.

Trusting in God’s plan requires surrendering our own desires and agendas, and submitting to His sovereign authority. It means relinquishing control and placing our faith in His wisdom, timing, and provision. It is a daily act of surrender, as we lay our burdens at His feet and entrust our future into His hands.

As we navigate the twists and turns of life’s journey, let us hold fast to the assurance that God is faithful to His promises. Though the road may be fraught with obstacles, setbacks, and detours, we can take comfort in knowing that He is with us every step of the way. He is our ever-present help in times of trouble, our steadfast anchor in the midst of life’s storms (Psalm 46:1).

My brothers and sisters, let us find solace in the truth that God is working it out, even when we cannot see the outcome. Let us rest in the knowledge that His plans for us are good, His purposes are unshakeable, and His love for us is unfailing. And may our hearts be filled with gratitude and praise as we witness His faithfulness unfold in our lives, one step at a time.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your unwavering faithfulness and steadfast love. Help us to trust in Your plan, even when we cannot see the way forward. Give us the strength to surrender our fears and uncertainties, and to rest in the assurance that You are working all things together for our good. May Your will be done in our lives, and may Your name be glorified in all that we do. In Jesus’ name, Amen and Amen and Amen!

In a world often filled with uncertainty, ambiguity, and scarcity, it’s extremely comforting to know that as believers, we serve a God who promises to supply all our needs. Philippians 4:19 reminds us that, “God will supply all of our needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” This passage of text reassures us that God’s provision knows no bounds.

Conversely, as we journey through the hard-knock life, we unfortunately encounter seasons of lack or moments of doubt and despair. Yet, in those times, we can find solace, peace, and confidence in the unchanging character aka hand of our Heavenly Father. Psalm 145:13 confirms, “God is faithful, and His promises stand firm.”

Just as He provided for the Israelites in the wilderness, so too does He provide for us today. Whether it’s our physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual needs, God’s provision is abundant and timely. He knows exactly what we require, and He never fails to deliver.

However, trusting in God’s provision requires crazy faith—a steadfast and earnest belief that God is capable and willing to meet us in our circumstances. Hebrew 11:6 is both an admonishment and encouragement; “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to God must believe that God exists and that God rewards those who earnestly seek Him.” Literally, our faith is an exclusive invitation to surrender alll of our worries, doubts, fears, and anxieties, knowing that God alone holds the keys to every promise and provision.

At the end of the day my beloved brothers and sisters, we must faithfully, perseveringly, consistently, earnestly, calculatively, and tenanciously approach each waking day with unwavering confidence aka faith, knowing that the same God who parted the Red Sea, fed the multitude with 2 fish and 5 loaves, and that left a borrowed tomb empty, is the same God who walks beside us, ready to supply our every need. May we perennially rest in His providence and promises, knowing that in God and God alone, we lack nothing!
