“Shall We Accept Good From God, and Not Trouble?”
Beloved, life with God isn’t meant to be one-sided. We gladly receive His blessings, but when trouble comes, our faith is truly revealed. Job understood this truth better than most. In one season, he lost his wealth, his children, and even his health—everything that brought comfort and security. Yet, even in unbearable pain, Job refused to turn away from God.
In Job 2:10, when his wife urged him to curse God and die, Job replied: “Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?” His faith wasn’t built on blessings—it was anchored in trust. Job didn’t understand his suffering, but he understood his God. He knew that the same hand that gives can also guide us through the valley of loss.
The Old Testament shows that Job’s endurance became the ‘seed’ of restoration. In time, the Lord blessed him with double what he had before. The New Testament affirms this in James 1:12: “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.” Both Job’s story and James’ reminder show us that perseverance in the storm leads to promise on the other side.
So Beloved, don’t mistake your trouble for abandonment. God allows testing not to punish, but to purify. The same God who blesses in the light will hold you in the dark. Accept both—the good and the hard—and you’ll discover His hand steady through it all.
Pray with me:
Father God, thank You for being faithful in both joy and sorrow. Teach me to trust You when I don’t understand and to worship You even in pain. Like Job, help me persevere through every trial so that my faith remains strong and pure. I know that a crown of life awaits those who love You. In Jesus’ name, we pray, believe, receive, and praise. Amen.
