What are the actions of a true authentic follower of Christ? Would you say, going church 2-3 times a week, reading the bible, pastoring, preaching, evangelizing, teaching, prophesying, tithing, and quoting scriptures qualifies us to be an authentic Christian? Sadly, many people today believe in order to be an authentic Christian you’re required to do all these things. Yes, attending church services, studying God’s word, preaching, teaching, prophesying, pastoring, and giving time, talents and treasures are important tools in our Christian development and advancing God’s kingdom however; what’s equally important if not of greater importance is possessing the right heart. I Corinthians 13:2-3,
essentially says, that without ‘love’ all of our actions are meaningless, purposeless, and fruitless. I have heard it said in the Message translation that whatever we do without ‘love’ we are bankrupt. Watch this, we can clothe ourselves with a false sense of authenticity or we can ask God for a complete spiritual wardrobe ‘makeover’. Now, you won’t be able to buy these garments online nor at Macy’s or Dillard’s however; you can access them in Colossians 3:12-14, “Since God chose you to be the holy people He loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.” C.S. Lewis once said, “We are ordered to ‘dress-up’ as Christ and though it may seem like a pretense, it is in fact that we are ordered to do so. But there is is a good kind (of pretending) where the pretense leads up to the real thing. When you don’t feel particularly friendly but know you ought to be, the best thing you can do, very often is to put on a friendly manner and behave as if you were a nicer person than you actually are. And in a few minutes as we all have noticed you will be feeling friendlier than you are. Very often the only way to get a quality in reality is to start behaving as if you already possess it.” So today be true to yourself by being true to God. If your Heart ain’t right seek God through prayer. Trust and believe God can fix it and remember your are not alone each of these garments (clothes) we are required to wear were worn by the ONE who gave it all for us.
