How do we achieve victory in the spiritual conflict of the incessant battle between the spirit and the flesh? Galatians 5:16-18says, “So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature desires. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh; for these are opposed to each other, to prevent you from doing what you would. But if you are led by the Spirit you are not under the law.” The desires of the flesh are found in vv 19-21,” sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Whereas the desires of the spirit are “Love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. (vv 22-23) Simply put, walking in the Spirit, is living out of the Divine nature that God has given us and has shown us through the life and legacy of our savior Jesus Christ. In response to the question above we walk by the spirit by yielding our hearts to God and by resting on His promises. “Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there.” (V. 24) It is important to remember that in our pursuit of victory that we are not battling for victory rather we are battle from victory….in Christ.
