MY HELP

Beloved, there comes a time in life when you realize that your own strength is simply not enough. You can make the plans, call the people, work the problem, and search for answers, but eventually you encounter something that reminds you: I need help greater than myself.

And that’s when faith declares, “My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”

In the Old Testament, an anonymous author wrote in Psalm 121:1–2 says, “I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” The psalmist wasn’t looking to the mountains because the mountains could save him. He was looking beyond the mountains to the God who created them.

That’s a word for somebody today. Stop measuring the size of your God by the size of your problem. If He made heaven and earth, your situation is not too difficult for Him. If He hung the stars in the sky, He can guide your next step. If He commands the winds and the waves, He can speak peace into your storm.

Sometimes God will allow us to reach the end of our own ability so we can discover the beginning of His sufficiency. When your strength runs out, His doesn’t. When your resources are limited, His aren’t. When you don’t know what to do next, He already knows the way.

In the New Testament another unknown author reminds us in Hebrews 13:6, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.” Notice the confidence in those words. Not maybe He will help me. Not hopefully He will show up. The Lord is my helper.

So whatever you’re carrying today, lift your eyes. Your help isn’t ultimately coming from your bank account, your connections, your position, or your own strength. God may certainly use people and resources to bless you, but never confuse the resource with the Source.

Beloved, your help comes from the Lord.

Pray with me: Father God, when I am overwhelmed, remind me to lift my eyes toward You. You are the Maker of heaven and earth, and nothing I face is greater than Your power. When my strength is gone, be my strength. When I don’t know the way, direct my steps. When fear tells me I’m alone, remind me that You are my Helper. Today, I place my confidence completely in You. In Jesus’ name, I pray, believe, receive, and praise in advance. Amen.
