Lord, If It’s Your Will, Let It Be
Beloved, there comes a point in our walk with God when our prayers begin to change. We stop simply saying, “Lord, give me what I want,” and begin praying, “Lord, if it’s Your will, let it be.” That prayer takes faith because surrender means trusting God enough to accept that His answer may look different from ours.
Sometimes we become so attached to what we want that we assume it must be what God wants. We pray for the relationship, the opportunity, the promotion, the healing, the open door, or the breakthrough. And there’s nothing wrong with asking. But mature faith eventually says, “Father, I want this—but I want Your will more.”
In the Old Testament, Proverbs 3:5–6 tells us to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” That’s difficult because our understanding wants explanations. We want to know why the door closed, why the answer hasn’t come, and why God’s timing doesn’t match ours. But faith doesn’t require knowing everything God is doing. Faith requires trusting the God who does.
Then we see the greatest example in Jesus. Facing the cross, He prayed in Luke 22:42, “Father, if You are willing, take this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done.” Jesus showed us that surrender isn’t weakness. Surrender is faith at its deepest level.
So perhaps there’s something you’ve been asking God for today. Keep praying. Keep believing. But leave room for God’s wisdom. Sometimes His answer will be yes. Sometimes it will be not yet. And sometimes His answer will be I have something different for you.
Don’t force a door God is closing. Don’t chase something God is asking you to release. And don’t become discouraged when His plan takes you somewhere you didn’t expect.
You can trust the heart of God even when you don’t understand the hand of God.
So let this become your prayer:
“Lord, if it’s Your will, let it be. If it’s not, help me let it go. And whatever You decide, give me enough faith to trust You.”
Pray with me: Father God, You know the desires of my heart and every prayer I have placed before You. Today, I surrender them all. If what I’m asking is according to Your will, Lord, let it be. If it isn’t, give me the strength to release it. Close every door that would pull me away from Your purpose and open every door that leads me closer to You. Above everything I want, Father, I want Your will for my life. In Jesus’ name, I pray, believe, receive, and praise in advance. Amen.
