God’s Love Define You
Beloved, there is nothing wrong with standing firm. There is nothing wrong with being strong, courageous, or unwilling to compromise what God has called you to believe. But there is something we must never forget: if God’s love doesn’t define us, even our greatest strengths can become our greatest weaknesses.
If God’s love doesn’t define us, standing firm can become self-righteousness, strength can turn into stubbornness, and courage can become arrogance.
In the Old Testament, Micah 6:8 tells us what God requires: “To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” Notice the balance. God calls us to stand for what is right, but He also calls us to love mercy and walk humbly. Truth without humility can become harsh. Conviction without compassion can become condemnation.
Then Jesus gives us the perfect example.
In John 13:34–35, Jesus commands His disciples to love one another as He loved them, declaring that people would recognize His disciples by their love. He didn’t say they would know us simply by how strongly we argue our position, how loudly we defend our beliefs, or how quickly we point out what is wrong. Love is supposed to distinguish us.
Beloved, we can be right about something and wrong in how we represent Christ while defending it.
Jesus never compromised truth, but He also never separated truth from love. He could confront sin and still extend grace. He could stand courageously without becoming arrogant. He possessed all authority, yet walked in humility.
That’s the balance we need.
Before you speak, ask, “Does this sound like Jesus?” Before you respond, ask, “Is love leading me, or is my pride leading me?” Before you stand your ground, make sure you’re standing on God’s truth and not simply protecting your ego.
Because spiritual maturity isn’t merely having strong convictions. It’s having strong convictions with a Christlike heart.
Pray with me: Father God, let Your love define everything about me. Give me courage without arrogance, strength without stubbornness, conviction without condemnation, and truth wrapped in grace. When pride begins to rise within me, humble my heart. Teach me to stand firmly for what is right while loving people the way Jesus loves me. May others recognize Christ not only by what I believe, but by how I live and how I love. In Jesus’ name, I pray, believe, receive, and praise in advance. Amen.
