“Meekness Is Strength Under Control”
Beloved, the world often mistakes meekness for weakness. It assumes that the strongest person is the loudest in the room, the one who always gets the last word, or the one who forces their way to the front. But God’s definition of strength is often very different from the world’s.
Meekness is not weakness.
Meekness is strength under control. It is power submitted to God’s authority. It is having the ability to retaliate, yet choosing grace. It is having the right to be angry, yet choosing self-control. It is having the opportunity to promote yourself, yet choosing humility.
In the Old Testament, Moses is described in Numbers 12:3 as “very meek, more than all people who were on the face of the earth.” Yet Moses was anything but weak. He confronted Pharaoh, led a nation through the wilderness, and stood firmly for God’s truth. His meekness was not the absence of strength; it was strength surrendered to God’s leadership.
Likewise, in the New Testament, Jesus declared in Matthew 11:29, “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart.” No one who walked this earth possessed greater power than Jesus. He calmed storms, healed the sick, raised the dead, and could have called upon legions of angels. Yet He chose humility, obedience, and submission to the Father’s will—Jesus is the real example of meekness!
Furthermore, meekness does not mean allowing people to walk over you. It does not mean remaining silent when truth must be spoken. It does not mean avoiding difficult conversations or responsibilities. Rather, it means allowing God’s Spirit to govern your strength, your words, your reactions, and your decisions. For example:
- When someone insults you and you choose wisdom over retaliation, that is meekness.
- When you have authority but use it to serve others rather than control them, that is meekness.
- When you trust God to defend your reputation instead of fighting every battle yourself, that is meekness.
The world celebrates power that dominates. God honors power that is surrendered.
Therefore Brloved, do not mistake gentleness for weakness. The strongest believers are often those who have learned to place their strength, talents, influence, and abilities completely into God’s hands. Because true strength is not found in controlling others.
True strength is found in being controlled by God.
Pray with me: Father God, teach me the strength of meekness. Help me submit my words, actions, emotions, and abilities to Your authority. Give me the wisdom to know when to speak, the humility to know when to listen, and the courage to trust You with every battle. Let my strength be guided by Your Spirit and my life reflect the humility of Christ— in Jesus name, I pray, believe, receive, and praise in advance, Amen.
