The Storm Knows His Name!

The Storm Knows His Name

Beloved, storms are an unavoidable part of life. Some storms arrive without warning. Others seem to linger far longer than we expected. They come in many forms—loss, uncertainty, disappointment, financial hardship, broken relationships, health struggles, and seasons when we simply do not understand what God is doing.

When the winds begin to blow and the waves begin to rise, fear often tries to convince us that we are alone, forgotten, or overwhelmed by circumstances beyond our control.

But there is something every storm must remember: No storm can overcome the God who commands the waters, winds, and waves.

In the Old Testament, the psalmist declared in Psalm 89:9, “You rule the raging of the sea; when its waves rise, You still them.” Long before the disciples found themselves caught in a storm, God had already established His authority over creation itself.

Likewise, in the New Testament, Mark 4:39 tells us that Jesus stood and rebuked the wind, saying to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” Immediately the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

Notice that Jesus did not panic. He did not negotiate with the storm. He simply spoke and His creation obeyed.

The same voice that calmed the Sea of Galilee is the same voice that speaks peace into our lives today. The storm may feel powerful, but it is not sovereign. The wind may be loud, but it is not in charge. The waves may rise, but they cannot rise above God’s authority.

Sometimes God calms the storm around us. Sometimes He calms the fear within us and sometimes He uses the storm to remind us just how faithful He is.

Whatever season you are facing today, remember this: your circumstances may surprise you, but they never surprise God. The storm arrived with limitations because it cannot go beyond what God allows. So do not place your faith in the size of the storm. Place your faith in the One who rules over it. Because when Jesus is in the boat, the storm may shake you, but it cannot sink you.

Pray with me: Father God, when the storms of life surround me, help me keep my eyes fixed on You. Remind me that You are greater than every fear, every challenge, and every uncertainty I face. Speak peace over my heart and strengthen my faith to trust You even when the waves are high. Thank You for being the God who commands the waters, winds, and waves, and for remaining faithful through every storm. In Jesus name, I pray, believe, receive, and praise in advance, Amen.
