#7 Cancellation of Debt!

If you have or had a revolving derogatory trade line item on your credit report, according to FCRA at the 7th year creditors are required to cancel the debt and the CRAs are required upon notice to remove that negative trade-line off your credit report. Did you know this guiding precept dates back to the 7th Century B.C.? Deut 15:1 says, “At the end of every 7th year you must cancel the debts of everyone who owes you money.” The difference today versus back then was the 7th century creditor had the right to nail a notice to the door post of the home so that anyone passing by could see the person in that house didn’t repay their debts. Now, we all owed a sin debt to God and that sin debt had no expiration date. However, in lieu of nailing notices to the door post of our homes; God in Christ Jesus decided to nail them to the cross on Calvary’s Hill some 2,000 years ago. Therefore, this week as we remember Jesus’ death we can rejoice knowing that Jesus paid it all!! Col 2:14 says, “He canceled the record of the charges [sin debt] against us and took it away [paid the debt] by nailing it to the cross.” Somebody say, “Thank you Jesus and AMEN!!”

King Least 🤴🏾

Who amoung us want to be great in life? Well, the disciples bickered over this very question nearly 2,000 years. Jesus said in Matthew 20:28, “When the ten others heard about this, they lost their tempers, thoroughly disgusted with the two brothers. So Jesus got them together to settle things down. He said, “You’ve observed how godless rulers throw their weight around, how quickly a little power goes to their heads. It’s not going to be that way with you. Whoever wants to be great must become a servant. Whoever wants to be first among you must be your slave. That is what the Son of Man has done: He came to serve, not be served—and then to give away his life in exchange for the many who are held hostage.”” The greatest amongst us is the least amongst us! I think Jesus yet again was revealing his greatness however; it was very common for Jesus to flip the script to set right what man made wrong! Wow, case-n-point; in order to be great we must be least. Humble is the way! Therefore, I choose humility, who’s with me?

Your Testimony!!!

Jesus revealed that Satan is on assignment to “Steal, kill and destroy” (John 10:10). In exactly that order, his first phase of attack is to steal and one of the first things he wants to steal is your testimony! Why? Well, he knows there is power in our testimonies. Revelation 12:11 says, “And they overcame him [the devil] by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.” Your testimony is about what you have experienced – what you have seen and heard. One of his often used strategy is Chaotic Adverse Circumstance (“CAC”). This is where he attempts to disproves what God has done in your life. In other words, he discredits your testimony. In short, your testimony is what God directly did in your life. This is why the devil wants to steal it from you, because it contains the power to expand and advance the Kingdom of God on earth. So keep on sharing my brother or my sister; your testimony contains power and yes, you will be persecuted when sharing your story. Some will reject you and try to hurt you, but remember this: you are a partaker of Christ’s suffering as well as His glory. Therefore, don’t stop sharing your message because it helps to usher salvation to other people and more importantly, it glorifies God.

He Satisfies Me!!!

Don’t think for a moment that God is deaf nor does he ignore your prayers. The trap the enemy sets for prayer warriors is called anxiety! Do you remember what the Israelites did in Exodus 32 when Moses was delayed in returning from the Mountain? Mooo….Mooo….that’s right, they substituted their God for a golden calf!! Phil 4:6-7, ‘teaches us not to worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell our God what we need, and thank him for all he has already done. Then we will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard our hearts and minds as we live in Christ Jesus.’ Think about it; when was the last time God didn’t respond to your prayer request? He may not have given you what you ‘thought’ you wanted but he gave you what he wanted for your good and his glory! Beloved of God, when we prayer, we must humble ourselves like little children and put on no airs of self-sufficiency, but run happily into the joy of our Father’s embrace because the glory of his grace is magnified and the longing of our souls are satisfied when our focus and his glory become one. So don’t fall for ‘the banana in the tail pipe’!! Place your peace in God himself and discover the glorious truth that God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in him!!

We Fall Short Too…

Forgiviness is not mortgaging negatives feelings rather it’s about releasing negative feelings . Psychologists define forgiveness as a conscious, deliberate decision to release feelings of resentment or vengeance toward a person or group who has harmed you, regardless of whether they actually deserve your forgiveness.

Just as important as defining what forgiveness is, though, is understanding what forgiveness is not. Experts who study or teach forgiveness make clear that when you forgive, you do not gloss over or deny the seriousness of an offense against you. Forgiveness does not mean forgetting, nor does it mean condoning or excusing offenses. Though forgiveness can help repair a damaged relationship, it doesn’t obligate you to reconcile with the person who harmed you, or release them from legal accountability. Before Christ took His last breath He said in Luke 23:34, “Father forgive them for what they are doing.” Notice He said doing??! The Roman soldiers were gambling for His clothing (John 19:23–24); the criminals on the crosses to either side of Him were reviling Him (Matthew 27:44); the religious leaders were mocking Him (Matthew 27:41–43); and the crowd was blaspheming Him (Matthew 27:39). Surrounded by this most unworthy lot, Jesus still prayed for them.

When people wrongfully hurt us we got to remember that Jesus paid the penalty for every past, present, and future sin. So when we choose not to forgive we are literally harboring a debt that has already been paid and we fail to extend the gift of love, grace and mercy that is extended to us when we fall short of God’s glory……..

Tug of War!!

I am reminded that my spirit is wiling but my flesh is weak (Matt 26:41) and I get it….if you teach the Word of God you will be held to a higher standard. James 3:1 says, “Dear brothers and sisters, not many of you should become teachers in the church, for we who teach will be judged more strictly.” James is asserting that teachers, by teaching, are claiming to know what they ought to do and, therefore, they have greater judgment if they fall short. Mainly because, teachers are given a gift from God that enables them to take the deeper truths of His word and make it easier for understanding and application by their students. Simply put, knowing more makes one more accountable. Stephen Covey states, “ACCOUNT-ability breeds RESPONSE-ability!” The Point Jesus was making in Matt 26:41 is that the spirit is indeed willing! In other words, Jesus is saying, “Lay hold of the fact that within you is your human spirit, which I gave you, and that is eager, willing, and desirous to do what is right. Come to experience the reality and force of the spirit that I placed within you, and that will be quickened with my Holy Spirit. Your spirit is willing!” Jesus was teaching Peter, James, John and now us the defining principle of accountability.

Man of Sorrows

In Isaiah 53:3 of the Message Bible’s paraphrase we read a brutally transparent breakdown describing our beloved of God but man forsaken Savior. Peterson said, “The servant grew up before God—a scrawny seedling, a scrubby plant in a parched field. There was nothing attractive about him, nothing to cause us to take a second look. He was looked down on and passed over, a man who suffered, who knew pain firsthand. One look at him and people turned away. We looked down on him, thought he was scum. But the fact is, it was our pains he carried— our disfigurements, all the things wrong with us. We thought he brought it on himself, that God was punishing him for his own failures. But it was our sins that did that to him, that ripped and tore and crushed him— our sins! He took the punishment, and that made us whole. Through his bruises we get healed. We’re all like sheep who’ve wandered off and gotten lost. We’ve all done our own thing, gone our own way. And GOD has piled all our sins, everything we’ve done wrong, on him, on him.” It’s was the Birth of Christ that gave us hope for eternal salvation but it was through the Risen Christ we made peace with God and secured eternal salvation.

My To Do List….

Talk about putting it in proper perspective!! The Message’s paraphrase in Deuteronomy 7:9 truly hits the nail on the head, “GOD wasn’t attracted to you and didn’t choose you because you were big and important—the fact is, there was almost nothing to you. He did it out of sheer love, keeping the promise he made to your ancestors. GOD stepped in and mightily bought you back out of that world of slavery, freed you from the iron grip of Pharaoh king of Egypt. Know this: GOD, your God, is God indeed, a God you can depend upon. He keeps his covenant of loyal love with those who love him and observe his commandments for a thousand generations. But he also pays back those who hate him, pays them the wages of death; he isn’t slow to pay them off—those who hate him, he pays right on time.” Jesus said in John 14:15, 21, “If you love me, obey my commandments” and whoever has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me. The one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and reveal Myself to him.” We are never too big for our own britches. Our response to God’s call is simple; Love God and our neighbors as we do ourselves. I love me some Jesus therefore, I am choosing the latter and not the former; who’s with me??

Did God Forget About Me?

If you ever thought for second that God forgot about you, check out the Message Bible transliteration of Isaiah 40:28: “Why would you ever complain, O Jacob, or, whine, Israel, saying, “ GOD has lost track of me. He doesn’t care what happens to me”? Don’t you know anything? Haven’t you been listening? GOD doesn’t come and go. God lasts. He’s Creator of all you can see or imagine. He doesn’t get tired out, doesn’t pause to catch his breath. And he knows everything, inside and out. He energizes those who get tired, gives fresh strength to dropouts. For even young people tire and drop out, young folk in their prime stumble and fall. But those who wait upon GOD get fresh strength. They spread their wings and soar like eagles, They run and don’t get tired, they walk and don’t lag behind.” After reading this refreshing word, I am ready to get up and get moving; who’s with me?!
