STOP HOLDING GRACE HOSTAGE

One Greek word used to translate the word “forgive”is charizomai. Charizomai derived from the word charis, which means “grace.” This word appears 27 times in the New Testament Gospel. Extending grace to others enables us to bestow a favor unconditionally; to show one’s self gracious, kind, benevolent; or to grant forgiveness, to pardon. As believers we are called to forgive others just as Christ has forgiven us. (Eph 4:32) There is power and love in forgiveness (grace). Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “We must develop and maintain the capacity to forgive. He who is devoid of the power to forgive is devoid of the power to love. There is some good in the worst of us and some evil in the best of us.” So today if you are holding grace (forgiveness) hostage, it’s time to release and extend but don’t fret; extending grace (forgiveness) doesn’t make you a doormat, rather a doorway that leads to miraculous power, healing, restoration, and reconciliation.

How can I forgive, when it hurts so bad?

It’s hard to forgive but it’s necessary in terms of reciprocity. The bible is clear in Matthew 6:14,”If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you.” I read an article in CNBC where a man literally gave his ex half of everything he owned. This disgruntled ex-husband, who goes by the name Der Juli online, posted a video to YouTube showcasing him cutting chairs, beds and phones in half for his ex-wife. Did this guy do the right thing? Of course not! His retaliatory actions only temporarily satisfied his fleshy appetite. When you chose to forgive you release the offender from the offense and by releasing the offender you are also releasing yourself. Forgiveness releases our anger, fear, pain and resentment and opens our hearts to joy, peace and love. Yes, others may have done things that have hurt or harmed us, and they are responsible for those actions. But these individuals are not responsible for how we live the rest of our lives. We are responsible for that. On a side note, forgiveness does not always equal, “Welcome back into my life”, to the person who has betrayed, harmed or abused you. Sometimes it can, and that can be a good thing. However, there are times when it is neither wise nor prudent to do so. But you can still free yourself from the burden of pain, anger, fear, hate, bitterness and resentment either way. Nelson Mandela said when asked why he was not resentful for his imprisonment, “Resentment is like a glass of poison that a man drinks; then he sits down and waits for his enemy to die.”

THE UNSEEN ENEMY

How do we engage an unseen enemy? There is a multifaceted battle being waged in the unseen spiritual realm that permeates our physical senses and our everyday lives and the adversary leading the charge is vicious, manipulative, and destructive; desiring nothing more than to kill, steal, and destroy. The Bible outlines this battle for us and explains what our mindset should be, when it states in Ephesians 6:11-12: “Put on the whole armour of God that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Christians are engaged in spiritual warfare everyday. James 4:7 says, “If we resist, the enemy will flee.” We resist by knowing our areas of vulnerability, knowing the truth good enough to discern error, being alert, praying, worshiping, standing firm in Christ, and counting on God promises. “All of our warfare and all of our activity must take place in the context of constant, unceasing prayer. Just as a soldier on the battle line has to keep in constant communication with his general headquarters and his commanding officer, so the Christian who is on the battle line must be in constant communication with his Lord. He might be fully equipped with all the armor, but if he is cut off from personal communication with his own commander, then he will be isolated and vulnerable.” R.C. Sproul

PAIN WITH PURPOSE

If you or someone you know is going through a difficult season right now please note that God doesn’t allow us to suffer without purpose. In Psalm 139:16 David said, “All the days ordain for me were written in Your before one of them came to pass.” The Message transliteration put it this way, “Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth; all the stages of my life were spread out before you,The days of my life all prepared before I’d even lived one day.” It should be comforting to know that God carefully, intentionally, skillfully, and specifically purposed everyday of our lives. What doesn’t make sense today will eventually make sense and even if it never make sense, one day it will all make sense. So don’t stop fighting the good fight of faith. Don’t retreat or surrender. Continue to be steadfast and immovable, ever abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain.(1 Co 15:58) We have all heard it said that God will make a way but according to our subject text, He has already made a way…. we are merely waiting for time to manifest destiny.

GOT LIFE?

If you have trusted Jesus for the forgiveness of your sins, are you walking with Christ in this newness of life or are you still living like nothing happened? God doesn’t want people who have been saved by the blood of Christ to live a mediocre life. He wants us to live an abundant resurrected life in Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:17 talks about this life when Paul said, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation. Old things have passed away and new things have come.” And Jesus calls that life “abundant” in John 10:10 He said, “A thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy. I have come that they might have life and have it more abundantly”. Now then, I don’t believe Jesus was referring to worldly stuff. However, I do believe that He was referring to things that money can’t purchase i.e. joy, peace, faith, and love. So today remember that God got you! He loves you and desires the best for you! Now unto God who can do so many awe-inspiring things, immeasurable things, things greater than we ever could ask or imagine through the power at work in us. (Eph 3:20)

FLESH VS SPIRIT

How do we achieve victory in the spiritual conflict of the incessant battle between the spirit and the flesh? Galatians 5:16-18says, “So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature desires. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh; for these are opposed to each other, to prevent you from doing what you would. But if you are led by the Spirit you are not under the law.” The desires of the flesh are found in vv 19-21,” sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Whereas the desires of the spirit are “Love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. (vv 22-23) Simply put, walking in the Spirit, is living out of the Divine nature that God has given us and has shown us through the life and legacy of our savior Jesus Christ. In response to the question above we walk by the spirit by yielding our hearts to God and by resting on His promises. “Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there.” (V. 24) It is important to remember that in our pursuit of victory that we are not battling for victory rather we are battle from victory….in Christ.

FREEDROM IN CHRIST

As you celebrate the Fourth of July weekend, think of creative ways to make the “Declaration” of freedom in Christ to your family and friends. There is no greater feeling of liberation than to experience the freedom from sin and death that God has provided for us through Jesus Christ. Our hearts and souls are free to praise God, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Independence Day should remind us of all those who have sacrificed for our freedom, following the greatest example of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Do not take freedom, both physical and spiritual, for granted because freedom isn’t free. Galatians 5:1 says, “Christ set us free so that we could live in freedom…..”

RESTORATION

How do we find restoration, hope, and healing in a world that is fallen? First, we must know the Source of restoration, hope, and healing. As Judah was preparing to war against the Chaldeans, The Lord said to Jeremiah in Chp 33:6-9; “Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security. I will bring Judah and Israel back from captivity and will rebuild them as they were before. I will cleansethem from all the sin they have committed against me and will forgive all their sins of rebellion against me. Then this city will bring me renown, joy, praise and honor before all nations on earth that hear of all the good things I do for it; and they will be in awe and will tremble at the abundant prosperity and peace I provide for it.” The Lord promised to guide us, satisfy us, prosper us, refresh us, rebuild us, repair us, and restore us all for His glory and our good. With the barrage of issues we endure on a day-to-day basis it’s hard to hear His voice but know this; just because God appears to be silent doesn’t mean He is deaf, blind, or unaware of our sufferings. I Peter 5:10 says, “In His grace God called you [us] to share in His eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you [we] have suffered a little while, He will restore, support, and strengthen you [us], and He will place you [us] on a firm foundation.” Today remember there is only One who can restore hope and heal this fallen world….Jesus Christ. So don’t give up rather give thanks to the Lord for He is good and His mercy endures forever!

DEAD WEIGHTS

TBT FROM 2010: Got Dead Weight????
Releasing dead weights requires letting GO!! Dead weights are or is anything that weighs heavy on your heart, mind, and spirit. The heaviest of dead weights are typically SIN and DISAPPOINTMENT. DON’T allow your dead weights to crossover into your NEW BEGINNING. We all fall short of His GLORY (no ones perfect and will never be) and if He can cast all of our iniquities, sins, and transgressions into the sea of forgetfulness not because He had to but because He chose to….why not YOU?? God has called us to freedom and liberty so take Him up on His offer and watch your life be a little lighter!!
