WHEAT or TARE

20140506-083649.jpg

Got a question for you. What’s more important, leading others to Christ or exposing demons? I believe the answer is obvious; leading others to Christ. Why then are so many Christians and church leaders today ‘demon chasers’ and not ‘Gospel sowers’? Perhaps, they’ve forgotten that when one sinner comes to repentance and the knowledge of God that Heaven roars with excitement. I don’t think the bible says the same about exposing demons. I am in no way minimizing spiritual warfare because I know it’s real. Walk with me for an moment to the Gospel of Mathew. In Matthew 13:24-30;vv36-34 we read and then later learn the meaning of the wheat and the tare parable. Watch this, the owner in this parable instructs his servants not uproot the tares; v 30 “Let both grow together until the harvest…” We find out in v 38 the ‘harvest’ means the end of the age. So why wait, why not uproot them now. Let’s bounce back to v 28-29. The servants asked, “Do you want us to go gather them up?” The owner replied, ” No, lest while you gather up the tares you also uproot the wheat with them. At the end of the day, top of the morning, the great commission gives us the authority to expose and cast out demons however; our laser focus should be on making disciples, baptizing, and teaching!

DELIGHT YOURSELF IN GOD

20140505-074441.jpg

Trusting God means looking beyond what we can see in the natural to what God sees in the supernatural . As long as what we ask for is within His will, He is pleased to meet our needs and fulfill many of the desires of our hearts. Psalm 37:3-5 says, “Trust in the LORD and do good; Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness. Delight yourself in the LORD; And He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, and He will do it.…”

Lord God, You know what we need and You also know what we don’t need. Unfortunately our flesh, the enemy, and our society relentlessly attempts to hinder, impede, and/or deter our walk of faith and patience. Therefore, we have a tendency to grow exceedingly impatient. Lord God, this is not a fruit rather a vice and we ask now for the Holy Spirit’s help, guidance, and influence to stay the course. We choose to put our hope and trust in You and likewise, we also choose to wait on You to meet our needs in Jesus’ name amen and amen!!!

CONSISTENT FAITH

20140504-083558.jpg

God has never stopped being good. You’ve heard it said before, “God is good all the time and all the time God is good!” Well, it’s true. Glory to God, that He is faithfully consistent whereas we are inconsistently faithful! So today, I encourage you to walk by faith and not by sight. I promise you that when you live by faith, God will supernaturally multiply your efforts.

GOOD SOIL

20140501-084845.jpg

Dr. Goodsoil taught his son Wayside not to boast or brag and to always be aware of his surrounding. One day Wayside was at the mall on a shopping spree and as he pulled out his wallet to pay the clerk, a man who was plotting to rob Wayside snatched his wallet and ran off. Then there’s Wayside’s cousin Stoney. Cousin Stoney is a great young, up and coming football player. Cousin Stoney is know for his exciting and exhilarating performances during practices however; the coach doesn’t put him in on game day because he folds too quickly under pressure. Big Thorn is Wayside’s big brother. Big Thorn, sells false hope. He is a televangelist. His only goal in life is to make enough money to buy a mansion and to become a cast member on the reality TV show, ‘Preachers of LA’. Which leaves Wayside’s father Dr. Goodsoil. Dr. Goodsoil is a very successful Doctor and he relentlessly speaks truth to his sons and nephew however; they refuse to listen. In Mathew 13:18-23 Jesus explains the parable of the sower. He says this, “Therefore hear the parable of the sower: When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside. But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles. Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful. But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.” It’s not the person rather the condition of the person’s heart that hinders them from living an abundant life in Christ. Join me in asking God to ready the richest soils of our hearts so that we may received a life convicting and life changing word from Him today. We all enjoy watch and enjoy various sports competitions and in most cases, especially when the team trails or drags there is that highlighted moment when one or more players performs a game changing action that turn the tables in their favor. It’s only when we rightly receive the word of God that His word becomes the game changer in our life!

5 MINUTE RULE

20140430-093456.jpg

We are all sinful human beings capable of unspeakable acts. We all experience times of victory and times of immaturity and foolishness. American author Elbert Hubbard (1856-1915) said, “Every man is a damn fool for at least five minutes every day; wisdom consists in not exceeding the limit.” Unfortunately, some people like me greatly exceed the limit. Fact is, everyone has problems, but those problems don’t give us the right to hurt others. If we do in turn hurt others, then we are OBLIGATED by God to make RECONCILIATION and RESTITUTION . We should attempt to right our wrongs if possible. In some situations it may be better to wait on God to move in the heart of both the offender an the offended. (Cool off period)

When we fall short of God’s glory it’s imperative and incumbent on us to admit, repent, trust, and reform. Do you remember the story of David and Goliath? What a great unilateral victory for David!! God used him to defeat Goliath thus establishing David’s kingdom by earning the trust
of his future subjects. Now let’s fast forward approximately 15 years. David is now faced with an extreme low. As you know, he not only committed adultery, he also committed murder. Which brings me to my point. After he was made of aware of his trespasses and unlike Saul, David manned up! Look at Psalm 51:1, For the choir director: A psalm of David, regarding the time Nathan the prophet came to him after David had committed adultery with Bathsheba he said, “Have mercy on me, O God, because of your unfailing love. Because of your great compassion, blot out the stain of my sins.” David admitted (confessed), repented (turned away), he trusted God would forgive him, and he later reformed his lifestyle. Watch this, in v.10 David says, “Create in me a pure heart, O God and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” Despite David’s great low, in the end, David found a reason to praise God; V. 15, He says, “Open my lips, Lord, and my mouth will declare your praise.” David in Hebrew means ‘Beloved’ and like David we are all beloved by God. So today don’t be discouraged rather be encouraged. In God’s eyes, FAILURE is never FINAL but it’s our spiritual obligation to admit when we are wrong, seek forgiveness, reformation, and transformation.

Lost Sheep

20140429-082914.jpg

I am a proud Houstonian but I am also a New York City transient. This morning while facilitating my children’s morning devotional, I was reminded of a moment in time where we desperately needed God’s divine intervention. My family, extended family and I were having fun in the sun at Coney Island. At the time, I was a approximately 7 years old and it was the first time my brothers and I ever saw the ocean! As I play back that moment it feels like yesterday; hearing the billowing waves, walking on the hot sand, and playing games with my brothers and cousins. Needless to say, we were ‘ballin’ and that day for a moment felt perfect, at least in the eyes of a 7 year old. As lunch drew near it was time to check in. My mom yelled, “Richard, Dietrich, Lowell, and Noel!” Of course we heard and came charging back to home base and that’s when this perfect day took a drastic turn. “Where is Noel?”, my mom asked. Of course, I was focused on eating my now warmed bologna sandwich. No one knew where the heck Noel went. So the hunt began! My mom and my grandmother immediately began to search for Noel. Leaving everyone behind except me they began piercing through the swarm of people. Why did they leave everyone except me? I wandered the same thing but later found out that I was being used as a real life ‘missing child’ billboard. You see Noel is my
twin brother and the best way to described how he looked was to point at me!! The good news was they found him and man if you could have captured the look on my mother and grandmother’s face; it was priceless. What a relief and a great family reunion. Yes, I was relieved of having to walk bare feet on that non-forgiving hot sand!! Our devotional today came out of Matthew 18:10-14; the parable of the Lost Sheep. I couldn’t think of a more relative illustration. As I mentioned, the look of my mother’s face was priceless when she and Noel reunited but the look before the reunion was perhaps similar to the man’s look in the parable when he discovered that one of his sheep had gone astray. In verse 13 we learned that if the man finds the sheep that he would rejoice more over the one sheep than over the ninety-nine that did not go astray. I figured that’s why no one thanked me for being his walking ‘missing child’ billboard!!! In this parable Jesus gives the meaning without question. In verse 14 He said, “Even so it is not the will of your father who is in Heaven that one of these little ones should perish.” Today, know that we were once all lost and it was Him that sought after us and not the other way around. God is longing to reunite with that one sheep so if I am speaking to you respond to His call. If I am not speaking to great, you are in the family of God but do me a favor you have my authorization to share my story with someone who isn’t!

GOT FRUIT?

20140428-073848.jpg

In Him you can do [endure] all things (Philippians 4:13) and with out Him You efforts are merely futile (John 15:5)

Lord, You are good and Your love for us will never fades, departs, or ends. Lord, we acknowledge that we need You in our lives. We commit and/or we recommit in making You the CENTER of our world. Lord God, You said, “A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.” Matt 7:18 Therefore, Holy Spirit illuminate the path in which we should take so that are actions may produce good FRUIT; in Jesus’ name, amen and amen!!

WHO CAN STAND AGAINST US?

20140427-093932.jpg

Nothing can stand against our God. He has all power. He rescued 2 million people out of Egyptian bondage. He parted the Red Sea for Moses. He led Jacob’s kids through the wilderness and provided light, food, and water from a rock. He stopped the sun for Joshua. He sent ravens to feed Elijah. He closed the mouths of hungry lions for Daniel. He came to the earth with love, healing, and wisdom but He was ridiculed, beaten, spat out, and murdered for crimes He never committed. He rose from the grave with all glory in His hands. He repo’d life, death, and sicknesses from the satan. So whatever you’re facing in life, reflect back on what He has done for you STAND DOWN hold your peace, and remain at rest! God promises He will fight your battles and lead you into everlasting victory; besides as it stands His track record is impeccable!!

IN THE BEGINNING WAS THE WORD

20140426-082848.jpg

The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory. John 1:14

“Managing a saltwater aquarium, I discovered, is no easy task. I had to run a portable chemical laboratory to monitor nitrate levels and ammonia content. I pumped in vitamins and antibiotics and sulfa drugs and enzymes. I filtered the water through glass fibers and charcoal.

You would think my fish would be grateful. Not so. When my shadow loomed above the tank to feed them, they dove for cover into the nearest shell. I was too large for them; my actions incomprehensible. They did not know that my acts were merciful. To change their perceptions would require a form of incarnation. I would have to become a fish and “speak” to them in a language they could understand, which was impossible for me to do.

According to the Scriptures, God, the Creator of the universe, did something that seems impossible. He came to earth in human form as a baby. “The world was made through Him,” says John, “and the world did not know Him” (John 1:10). So God, who created matter, took shape within it, as a playwright might become a character within his own play. God wrote a story, using real characters, on the pages of real history. “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us” (v.14). Philip Yancey

Let’s face it, Jesus gave up pristine perfection and magnifying glory for ratchet imperfection and much needed reproach. In the above article written by Philip Yancey we learn the fish in his aquarium exhibited fear. This fear derived from a lack of understanding and/or comprehension. Even though Yancey’s actions were good in terms of life preservation for the fish and it’s environment, it lacked efficacy in conveying the differences between predator and caretaker. What was impossible for Yancy was possible for God so, He entered human life, lived a human life, and died a inhumane death to give us (humans) another shot to live an abundant life here on earth and then an eternal life in Heaven.

100 PERCENT

20140425-105648.jpg

How many times have you heard this declaration whether it be vocational related, athletic, scholastic, or in general competitions, “Give it 100%” or the even mathematical impossible give it 110%? I have learned that most people truly believe they give 100% however, the reality is their 100% is not quite 100%. Watch this, one person’s 100% might be 20% and another person’s 100% might be 80% and so forth. John Maxwell said, “Don’t send your ducks to eagle school and don’t send your eagles to duck school.” Maxwell continues this analogy by saying, ” Eagles are designed and created to soar whereas ducks were designed and created to swim.” IOW, if the duck exerted 100% effort in an attempt to soar like an eagle, it would only accomplish 50% of it’s goal. You see when the duck is placed in the the right element it will thrive and when it is taking out of it’s element, it will most likely fail. Make note, I am in no way advocating mediocrity more so than dispelling the illusion of excellence in exerted effort. Check this out, the ‘Pareto Principle’ (or the 80-20 rule), states that 80 per cent of consequences stem from 20 per cent of causes and the ‘Law of Diminishing Returns’, suggests that, as we near 100% we expend proportionally more effort on the remaining work. Here’s the twist, all of this only applies to the natural. When we factor adding God to the equation; what was mathematically impossible is now supernaturally attainable! Do we really think that David killed Goliath in his own strength? He was a master of the ‘sling shot ‘ however, David didn’t posses the supernatural strength to accomplish defeating Goliath without God’s participation. 1 Samuel 17:45, “…..but I come against you in the name of The Lord Almighty.” So today know that with God all things are possible and well apart from Him we can do nothing. John 15:5, ” I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” At the end of the day, no one really exerts 100% however, when we give God full custody of our lives and not mere weekend visits we will supernaturally change the course of history, positively increase the throughput yield of our actions, and we will experience an abundant life in Him!
